What is USB-CThe USB standard is already almost fully mature. After minor childhood issues, the technology has become the connectivity standard for almost all devices - whether smartphones, PCs or notebooks. This was also achieved thanks to the careful evolution of the interface. Now, however, contrary to previous tradition, USB reinvented from scratch is coming.
USB Type-C is a new kind of plugs and connectors. Along with the progressing miniaturization of electronic equipment, USB plugs unchanged for years are increasingly limiting innovation in device design. Manufacturers complain not only about the thickness of the USB connector, but also about how much space it takes up inside the device. The new plug is thinner, narrower, shorter and symmetrical ? it can be inserted in either direction. The USB Type-C cable has a large number of wires (at least 15) and must meet strict requirements regarding signal quality. In turn, four pairs of very high-speed differential signals provide not only high throughput, but also enable communication using protocols other than USB. For example, DP mode has already been demonstrated several times, in which the USB Type-C connection replaces DisplayPort and allows a monitor to be connected. Additional connections in the USB Type-C plug can be used to transmit analog audio signals. Thanks to this, for example, a phone with USB C does not even need to have a headphone output, only an attached USB C to minijack adapter.
Theoretically, USB Type-C is a definite step forward, because it allows everything to be connected, even a power adapter. The standard includes only one plug and one socket. It is clear that for some time the tangle of adapters will still irritate us, but in the long run life with a unified plug will be easier: users will need fewer cables and fewer power adapters for all their devices, such as notebooks, tablets, smartphones and others.
